BMW have had a fruitful motorsport history since it first appeared in 1938 in the long endurance event the Mille Miglia. The year was 1938 and BMW entered their 2.0 litre BMW 328 sports car into the famous Mile Miglia road racing event. The car did very well for a number of drivers that were participating in the event and the car managed the class win beating off their competitors.

The following year the car showed more promise but was not able to win the event and that is truly what its makers wanted to do. Their patience paid off in 1940 when a BMW 328 car, the car that won their class in 1938, won the whole event after a gruelling 998 miles. The car was helped as it was upgraded with a streamlined body that allowed for more aerodynamic efficiency.

The BMW 328 also won the 1939 RAC rally and then finished 5th overall after 24 hours and 1st in the 2 litre class. This meant that it was considered as the best international sports car of that era in the 2 litre category. At this time, BMW were racing motorbikes, in 1939 one of their motorcycles won the Isle Of Man TT and other events such as the sidecar World Championship. This continued until the 1970’s.BMW have also had a fairly big history in Formula 1. During the 1980’s they wanted to develop an engine for F1 purposes. The Brabham F1 team saw this opportunity and the engine were first raced in 1982. The engines first race win was at the 1982 Canadian grand prix with the help of Nelson Piquet.

The following season, in 1983, the partnership continued and the BMW powered Brabham took 4 victories on its way to help Nelson Piquet win the title. BMW changed to the Benetton team in 1986 but it only managed to win one world championship race. With the success in Formula 1 at a minimum, BMW decided to drop their engines out of the world championship at the end of the 1986 season.

The engine they used though continued throughout 1987 but was renamed Megatron as they had bought the rights to the engine and they were put into the Arrows team for 1987. The BMW engine was famous for being the first Formula 1 engine to develop more than 1000hp in race trim and nearly 1400hp in qualifying trim when the boost was engaged fully.

They did not enter Formula 1 again until 1997 when they formed a partnership agreement with the Williams F1 team to produce engines for them for the 2000 season onwards. The powerful E41 V10 engine was made for the Williams team and debuted by the team where they managed to get 3rd place in the constructors’ championship and 3 podium finishes. There was always some disagreements during the partnership with Williams and in 2005 a big row broke out about the reliability of the engines and the team was not competitive during the season.

BMW then bought rights to the Sauber team which allowed them to set up their own team and design the car from the ground up. The car was quite successful in its first season earning themselves 5th in the constructor’s championship. Jacque Villeneuve who was with the team when it was Sauber had disagreements with BMW and then left at the end of the season where polish rookie driver Robert Kubica replaced him and instantly showed promise.

Dodge is one of the most iconic American car manufacturers present in the automobile space for over a century. Dodge is a US car manufacturer synonymous with producing high quality cars, minivans, MPVs and pick-up trucks. With a broad customer base and an impressive model range, Dodge has come a long way since its formation 110 years ago. Now regarded as the go-to manufacturer for big, bold vehicles, Dodge has become a huge hit with drivers all over the world, particularly in America and Europe. However, just where did it all start?

Dodge was a model produced by Chrysler Corporation, which built several automobiles. Dodge is known to be an automobile maker that exists at the cross-section of affordability and performance. Dodge was originally founded as the Dodge Brothers Company in 1900 and found success supplying parts and assemblies to the Detroit auto industry but they soon found this wasn’t enough. Fed up of “being carried around in Henry Ford’s vest pocket” the Dodge brothers decided it was time they used their expertise to build their own complete models. In 1914 the firm produced its first vehicle – the Dodge Model 30 – which was hailed as a slightly more up market alternative to its competitor the Ford Model T. Dodge went on to achieve great success and their cars were ranked second place in the American sales in 1920. However, it wasn’t long before Dodge attracted the attention of some of the larger companies in the manufacturing business. In 1928 Dodge was bought by Chrysler Corporation where the firm still resides today. Chrysler currently has a merger with Fiat, which has plans to evolve many of the Dodge models into products of the Chrysler-Fiat merger. In terms of Dodge vehicles, the model range couldn’t be stronger. Not only does the body of a Dodge look great, but the inner workings are also superior to many other car brands out there. With millions of cars produced over the past century, few can argue the impact Ford Motor Company has had on the auto industry. Key models throughout the Dodge timeline include the Dodge Hemi, the Dodge Lancer, the Dodge Charger and the Dodge Challenger. Popular modern Dodge vehicles include the Dodge Journey, the Dodge Viper and the Dodge Nitro. In terms of the future, Dodge is just about to put the new Ram range on the market. Characteristic and extrovert; the Ram series is easily the most daring and exciting of all the Dodge ranges. But will they be a success? If Dodge’s past history is anything the go by, the answer has to be a resounding “yes”!

It is amazing to look and see just how far Porsche has come. Porsche is a prestigious sports car that can be used for everyday driving. Ferdinand Porsche was an automobile engineer with more than a thousand patents to his name, and played an important role in the development of airplanes and the construction of tanks for the Wehrmacht as well. In the 1920s, he was appointed chief engineer at Mercedes-Benz in Stuttgart and later set up his own engineering workshop. There he designed, among other things, the Volkswagen. He acted as chief of operations at the plant where the Volkswagen was made, Wolfsburg, and at the end of the war he was interned by the Allies.

There are a multitude of cars in the world and some are more desired than others. Porsche are renowned for producing a high calibre of sports car. It is one of the world leaders in the field of luxury and racing cars. Ferdinand Porsche and his descendants participated in developing a range of machines from cars to aeroplanes to Wehrmacht tanks. He was released a few years later and immediately went to work building his first car with his son, Ferry Porsche. This car was named the Porsche 356, after Ferry, and was a sports car with styling reminiscent of the Volkswagen. In fact it had the same four-cylinder boxer engine, and wore it rear-mounted, just as the VW did. Distinguished by its elegant and innovative body, the Porsche 356 was first produced as a convertible and then as a hard top. Father and son developed it in the workshop of Erwin Komenda, a master of restrained streamlining who had been in charge of sheet metal and design techniques for Ferdinand Porsche since the VW Beetle. Erwin Komenda and Ferdinand “Butzi” Porsche, the founder’s grandson, continued this tradition with the 911. Porsche is a German luxury car currently owned by the Volkswagen Company. It is now the Automobile designed to impress from the streets to the racetrack. In the 1990’s the company seemed to realize that what some perceived as a stylistic straitjacket was in fact a market advantage. During this period, Porsche embraced the timeless nature of classic styling to become highly profitable. Nearly forty people now worked in the design department solely dedicated to further improvement of the long running 911. Such developments included the 911 GTI, put forward by the in-house designer Anthony R. Hatter as a powerful combination of sports and racing car. In 1999, Porsche’s chief designer proudly unveiled the new Boxster, enabling Porsche to establish a second independent range of successful models.

The BMW car has always ruled the automobile industry from its very inception. Even today, it is one car that can demand undivided attention when it runs the road in its brilliance. Yes, it does make heads turn, and does make its makers proud!

Its many attractive models have pampered mankind with their style, comfort and driving pleasure. The acceleration, handling, mileage, looks, built, engine/transmission, capacities, safety, steadiness—just name it and the BMW car has it all. Here’s a teaser for you: BMW’s AC Schnitzer TENSION took part in a high-speed test in Italy under the “Beyond 300 km/h” category and emerged as the fastest BMW in the world at the end of it. So whenever you think of speed, you just can’t dismiss the BMW. It burns roads in its fiery presence—the regal interiors, superb engineering, commendable engine power, top notch body-styling components and more. The BMW 3-series coupe and convertible are the latest additions in 2007. The developers and designers of this car brand never stop thinking about the drivers’ needs. The 325 models have got a power upgrade to 230 and a name upgrade to 328. The 330 models have got a turbocharged 3-liter inline six and a name upgrade to 335. All are ready in an all-wheel-drive version 328xi. These also have improved navigation systems that can download real-time traffic updates and factor in traffic delays when computing the fastest route.

Take for instance the BMW 328i sedan—it’s purely a love-at-first-drive car! Forget the cliché good looks that’s integral to BMW, this sports sedan is a sheer driver’s joy, unlike most cars in this range. The Audi A4, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Lexus IS250, Infiniti G35, Acura TL, and Volvo S-60 are all worthy of the ‘sports sedan’ tag, but the 328i sedan has a tad more to it—it has impressed drivers with its unparalleled stability on high-speed runs and smoothness on any terrain. However, speed does not come only from maximum engine power; it is also because of careful engineering of all elements and maintenance. That is one reason why its owners give huge importance to BMW tuning.

The BMW 5-series and 6-series models have the new navigation systems now. Optionally, the 5-series is also been given a high-definition radio and night-vision to enhance the drivers’ luxury and the 6-series is fitted with a high-quality leather package and Logic7 sound system. The 7-series BMW has one-of-a-kind interior trim, Merino leather and special 20″ wheels. It also offers more exterior paint colors at extra cost to compound the BMW experience.

This car brand has an intense fan-following, for obvious reasons! And all BMW enthusiasts over the world interact with each other and share their common dreams, fantasies and ideas through the BMW community online. You must be part of one if you love the BMW; and if you aren’t, it won’t take you long for sure.
